A Gift Gives in Two Directions
Please accept this piece as a symbol of my gratitude for your kindness over the years. Buckhorn Inn, your kindheartedness and the friendly and competent staff have endeared Buckhorn to me and my family for over two decades. As you may recall the year after my wife passed away my daughter, Lisa, and I decided we could not spend Christmas in my house. I called you and inquired about a vacancy. The Inn was closed but you offered us the Bebb House for several days. Not only did you rescue us from a dark Christmas but you threw in a box of Harry and David Truffles. Your kind efforts will never be forgotten by either of us.
I picked up this piece of oak during a walk on the property around Bebb House with the intent of crafting something. It has been in my wood box since 2008 and re-surfaced the other day when I was searching for some walnut. What better time to craft something than the 75th anniversary of Buckhorn…… If you look carefully at the bowl, both inside and outside, the forces at work seem almost volcanic. There are tension cracks, bark inclusions, black line splats and even some grain wave. Truly a remarkable work of nature.
The wonderful thing about making a piece especially for a person or persons is that they are on my mind throughout the entire process. That is their gift to me. I hope you enjoy the piece as much as I enjoyed making it for you. Best wishes, Tom Peterson
