Smokies in the Spring at Buckhorn Inn
by Colleen Campbell

A month away
From today
A Miss Rena and
A Miss Colleen
Will come to stay….

You mustn’t in Spring
Miss a single thing
For God puts on quite a show
Things of wild that grow and grow.
A trillium over here
A hidden violet under there.
Bears cling to trees way up high
Elks that move as if they fly!
I save for last the best of all
These are the people we see every spring and every fall –The innkeepers and the cooks
To the house cleaners and those who fill the books
Spring,summer, fall and even winter,too.
Buckhorn Inn, I love you.
So coming soon, these two ladies visit.
It goes so fast I already miss it

Guest Reviews Buckhorn Inn and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Hi Lee and John,

Arline  and I were recent guests of yours at  Buckhorn Inn and found it to be one of the highlights of our visit to the Great Smoky National Park.  From the greeting on our arrival, to the comfortable tower room, to the delicious breakfasts and dinners, to the warmness and fine service of the staff, we were delighted in all that you folks offer.  Arline is ready to return and suggested a number of times on our return to New England the possible dates and the various things there are to enjoy.  We did, by the way, really enjoy the Nature Trail on your 30 acres. Our compliments to all.

Glad to be back! – Review of Buckhorn Inn, Gatlinburg, TN – TripAdvisor

The Buckhorn is in a quiet location away from the noise of Gatlinburg. Our room was a “premium” one and we found it clean, very comfortable, with many amenities. More like staying at a friend’s home. Room Tip: The premium rooms are quite spacious with great views.

“Charming inn, beautiful peaceful setting” – Review of Buckhorn Inn, Gatlinburg, TN – TripAdvisor

In the Great Smokies: Just a few miles from noisy Gatlinburg, but truly a world away. We first visited this classic inn several years ago & looked forward to our return. Wonderful view from the room. Comfortable room; small bathroom , which goes along with age of inn; worth the trade off. Lovely furnishings. Interesting artwork all around. The extensive grounds are walkable & lovely. Wonderful to just walk downstairs for dinner, though I’m sad to say that our dinner experience on this visit (unlike the past) was disappointing. (See separate restaurant review. This “5 star” review relates to the inn itself. I debated dropping the overall rating, but I just couldn’t do it: I love the Buckhorn Inn! So I review the restaurant separately.)

Note to visitors who dislike the shared tables of B & B’s: You are seated at your own table for breakfast as well as dinner. The breakfast menu has a variety of good choices.

Breakfast is also outstanding, the choices were wonderful, the fruit to begin the meal was always ripe and again service is delightful.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Buckhorn; we have lovingly reminisced about it many times since we first stayed a decade ago. There’s not much I can add to the reviews below, other than to note that our hearts have grown even fonder. I am not normally at a loss for words, but it is hard to convey with precision how genteel and refined this Inn and its keepers are, while at the same time being warm, welcoming and down to earth. We stayed in a suite that must have been the old innkeeper’s quarters, as we had an expansive living room with fireplace, a dining area, a large fully-outfitted kitchen with laundry room, a smaller sitting room with a library, a master bedroom, two bathrooms, a linen closet, and two balconies, all decorated to a high standard of beauty and tastefulness. The kids spent a lot of time playing in the “secret closet”, and I spent a lot of time on the balcony, listening to the most enchanting birds and spring peepers weaving together their mountains-in-the-twilight songs, as the sunset flared off of Mt. LeConte. Our three breakfasts were fabulous, from Pina Colada French Toast to grilled salmon and hashbrowns. Our children had some questions about the chef one day, and they were invited into the kitchen to watch Chef Frank at work. It was so special and thoughtful, the kindness and consideration shown not just to us, but to the little ones who can sometimes be regarded with scorn at fancier places. It is also very affordable for the quality and value of what you get. The grounds are filled with beautiful springtime Lenten roses and the inn is filled with a very nice art collection. But most important of all is the feeling of joy, beauty, and peacefulness that stays with you long after you have left the Smokies. We hope to return again soon!

Buckhorn Inn – A tranquil, well appointed surprise in the Smokies – Review of Buckhorn Inn, Gatlinburg, TN – TripAdvisor

“Buckhorn Inn – A tranquil, well appointed surprise in the Smokies”Reviewed 2 days ago NEWA well needed respite in a gorgeous setting, this mountain retreat in the heart of the Smokies met and exceeded our expectations in every way. A friendlier staff simply can’t be found & everyone from the owner to the office manager to the wait staff and the chef himself always engaged us and warmly treated us like old friends. The dinners, served at tables with linens, were set in a relaxing & quiet atmosphere with much thought out menus that will please even the most finicky diner and breakfast was always delish! At center stage of the dining room is a large stone fireplace with walls decorated with canvas prints of local birds and wildlife from a local photographer. Afternoon snacks were a much appreciated carry thru. The grounds are as lovely and lush as depicted on their website and I personally found the labyrinth a soothing and meditative break that was really needed. With it being mating season we didn’t get too close to the swans as they become aggressive if approached but they were a visual feast to adore their beauty from afar. The room was huge and spacious giving each of us our own personal space. Well appointed with every convenience we expected & a fireplace that was the focal point of the room. The deck overlooking the grounds and a picture perfect view of the Smokey Mountains were an added bonus. How lovely to wake up to this gorgeous view that so few get to enjoy! A timeless library with fireplace is a great hideaway if you need it and throughout the property are trails some of which are cleared & mulched. We’ll be sure to return and if you’re on the fence about making this destination a reality, let this be the review that pushes you off to reserve yourself a room as close to heaven as you can get here on earth.
