Dinner Guest Review from TripAdvisor
epbodo writes: Superb Mountain Getaway. We return to the Buckhorn Inn as often as possible. The location, a few miles outside of Gatlinburg, is perfect to avoid the tourist crowd and is convenient to many hiking and day-trip destinations. The rooms are always clean and well-kept. We usually eat dinner at the Buckhorn and we have never been left hungry or dissatisfied. Staff is always ready to accommodate special requests. The soups and desserts are extraordinary. Lee and John and all of their helpers are gracious hosts. To summarize in one short sentence: We love the place.

Donna V writes: Priceless! Another lovely visit to the beloved Buckhorn! This time with lifelong friends
who fell in love with the Inn too! We stayed in the Bebb House for the first time and absolutely loved it! It’s so charming and cozy with lots of room to accommodate two couples. The full kitchen and two baths were perfect. The view from the beautiful living area is breathtaking and my husband kept a warm fire going which we all enjoyed! We dined in the Inn on Saturday evening and the prime rib was delicious! Heidi is the ever welcoming hostess and took care of us so well! Breakfast at the Buckhorn is always a treat with a sweet or savory choice each morning!
We missed seeing John this visit but Lee informed us he was celebrating his birthday with friends and family. The Mellors could not be more perfect as innkeepers! We have been visiting the Inn for almost twenty years and always look forward to our next stay with anxious anticipation!
Fancydance wrote: Girl trip. We had a girlfriend getaway trip. We are all critical care nurses, we work in a stressful environment. This trip allowed us time to relax and unwind for a week. Everyone was so kind and nice. We stayed in the Bebb House which offered beautiful views. The stay was relaxing. The Inn offered us peace and quiet. The staff always asked about our day, wanting to make sure we were pleased. The answers were always yes. Can’t wait to return next year.

More Favorite Food Scenes from Movies
In the last issue of our newsletter we celebrated some of our favorite movies scenes involving food. We invited our readers to contribute to the list, and many of you replied.
Our Readers at the Movies
Roger Meyer from Georgia reminded us of one of our favorite movies, “Tom Jones.” Roger captures the movie well: “One cannot forget the 1963 movie “Tom Jones” in which Tom, played hilariously by Albert Finney at age 26 is a rascal of the highest (or lowest) order. He attempts to seduce an older woman in a tavern over a plate of food such as oysters and lobster. The acting, photography, and dialogue are spot on.”
Roger also reminds us of the 2015 movie “Chef” which we have only seen recently. In the film Jon Favreau leaves his top shelf job as a chef de cuisine to start a food truck. “The food scenes, especially when he begins to cook for the food truck, will make you salivate and leave the movie theater dying for some good ethnic food.” We agree!
And who can forget “Tortilla Soup” from 2001. Hector Elizondo invites his daughters home to dine with him every Sunday. They discuss everything about life and love over these meals. Raquel Welch plays a widow trying to become a love interest of Elizondo. The food scenes look delicious. As Roger says, “You won’t need popcorn with this movie, the food scenes will sate you!”
Several readers mentioned “Goodfellas” from 1990. They called to mind the dinner scene in prison. Remember the garlic sliced so thin with a razor blade that it would “liquefy in the pan with just a little oil”?
A member of our own team chided us gently for not including “Leave the gun, take the cannoli” from “The Godfather”. This team member also referenced 1967’s “Cool Hand Luke” where Paul Newman earned the respect of his fellow inmates by eating 50 hardboiled eggs. In the words of one prisoner, his stomach was so swollen “like a ripe watermelon that’s about to bust itself open”.
We have plenty more scenes that you have submitted–keep watching this space for more!

Comments from our Guests
We were so happy to meet guests James and Cheryl Nipper this September. The Nippers were first-time
Buckhorn Inn visitors from Jacksonville, FL and were so warm and friendly.
He is an attorney, but we suspect also a photographer because he took some great shots of the Inn. James described the Inn as “laid-back, quaint, all-Southern”. We were so flattered when he said the Inn reminds him of what he sees in Southern Living! We actually have been in the magazine several times. Here is a “throwback” recommendation on our dining room from 2008! http://southernliving.com/travel/south-central/cozy-cabin-getaway-two
Guests Enjoy Buckhorn Grounds
The Nippers especially enjoyed the view of Mount LeConte from their room, and pointed out that it is the highest point in the Smoky Mountains that is fully situated in Tennessee. They walked the Buckhorn Inn Nature Trail and took some great photos of the pond. James says the scene reminds him of the movie “On Golden Pond”. He was kind enough to give us permission to share some of the great photos they took at the Buckhorn Inn. We are sharing them with no filters or special effects–we think they are gorgeous “as is”! We look forward to the Nippers’ next visit and in the meantime, please enjoy their photos.
