Glad to be back! – Review of Buckhorn Inn, Gatlinburg, TN – TripAdvisor

Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Buckhorn is in a quiet location away from the noise of Gatlinburg. Our room was a “premium” one and we found it clean, very comfortable, with many amenities. More like staying at a friend’s home. The staff was all so friendly, among them we found “Libby” to always be most cheerful and helpful. We had dinner there on Sunday evening and the meal,…

“Charming inn, beautiful peaceful setting” – Review of Buckhorn Inn, Gatlinburg, TN – TripAdvisor

Reviewed 5 weeks ago

In the Great Smokies: Just a few miles from noisy Gatlinburg, but truly a world away. We first visited this classic inn several years ago & looked forward to our return. Wonderful view from the room. Comfortable room; small bathroom , which goes along with age of inn; worth the trade off. Lovely furnishings. Interesting artwork all around. The extensive grounds are walkable & lovely. Wonderful to just walk downstairs for dinner, though I’m sad to say that our dinner experience on this visit (unlike the past) was disappointing. (See separate restaurant review. This “5 star” review relates to the inn itself. I debated dropping the overall rating, but I just couldn’t do it: I love the Buckhorn Inn! So I review the restaurant separately.)

Note to visitors who dislike the shared tables of B & B’s: You are seated at your own table for breakfast as well as dinner. The breakfast menu has a variety of good choices.

Breakfast is also outstanding, the choices were wonderful, the fruit to begin the meal was always ripe and again service is delightful.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Buckhorn; we have lovingly reminisced about it many times since we first stayed a decade ago. There’s not much I can add to the reviews below, other than to note that our hearts have grown even fonder. I am not normally at a loss for words, but it is hard to convey with precision how genteel and refined this Inn and its keepers are, while at the same time being warm, welcoming and down to earth. We stayed in a suite that must have been the old innkeeper’s quarters, as we had an expansive living room with fireplace, a dining area, a large fully-outfitted kitchen with laundry room, a smaller sitting room with a library, a master bedroom, two bathrooms, a linen closet, and two balconies, all decorated to a high standard of beauty and tastefulness. The kids spent a lot of time playing in the “secret closet”, and I spent a lot of time on the balcony, listening to the most enchanting birds and spring peepers weaving together their mountains-in-the-twilight songs, as the sunset flared off of Mt. LeConte. Our three breakfasts were fabulous, from Pina Colada French Toast to grilled salmon and hashbrowns. Our children had some questions about the chef one day, and they were invited into the kitchen to watch Chef Frank at work. It was so special and thoughtful, the kindness and consideration shown not just to us, but to the little ones who can sometimes be regarded with scorn at fancier places. It is also very affordable for the quality and value of what you get. The grounds are filled with beautiful springtime Lenten roses and the inn is filled with a very nice art collection. But most important of all is the feeling of joy, beauty, and peacefulness that stays with you long after you have left the Smokies. We hope to return again soon!

Tragic Death of Our Swans

I am very sad to report that both Teller and his mate Pentrey have died and their cygnet eggs were taken by a predator. Teller died from his wounds on Monday evening which were a result of his brave and noble effort to protect Pentrey and the cygnet eggs. Pentrey passed away today which we think may have been a result of grief and shock. We are all grieving for their loss and I know many of our guests and neighbors will as well. They gave us so much beauty and pleasure over the years. We do not intend to have swans on Buckhorn Pond in the future, but we hope to erect a memorial in their honor.
